  • I understand that in Thai language there are two ways to say "definition".
  • * กำหนัด == gam-hno(a^)d
  • * นิยาม == Ni-yam
  • If I understand correct, the first one is used to describe how a person defines herself/himself and the second one is used to describe how a person defines someone/something else (i.e. which is not herself/himself).
  • For example:
  • * ฉัน กำหนด ตัวเอง เป็น X
  • * เขา นิยาม ฉัน ตัวเอง เป็น Y
  • If it's a wrong understanding I'll be glad to know, but anyway, what are the differences between the two words?

  • Still, I ask, what are the differences between the two words?

The word "definition" and its derivates in Thai language
I understand that in Thai language there are two ways to say "definition".

* กำหนัด (gam-hno(a^)d
* นิยาม (Ni-yam)

If I understand correct, the first one is used when a person describes herself/himself and the second one is used when the person describes how someone else describes something which is not herself/himself.

For example:

* ฉัน กำหนด ตัวเอง เป็น X
* เขา นิยาม ฉัน ตัวเอง เป็น Y

If it's a wrong understanding I'll be glad to know, but anyway, what are the differences between the two words (and are there other very common words to say "definition" in a general way, in Thai language)?
