I have a very little knowledge about Arabic but as far as I know, both spellings are correct and acceptable. Use whichever you want but be consistent. Moshi has explained it excellently. In fact, Trisyllabic Laxing is the reason it happened. I'm going to explain it from another point of view. Pronounce is stressed on the second syllable. When the suffix -tion is appended to it, the primary stress moves to the syllable prior to the suffix -tion. ...

Comment Post #277298 That's what I would say. But why the spelling changed? It could easily have been "pron**o**unciation" with the new pronunciation caused by Trisyllabic Laxing. Why did the O get removed?
